Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Treatment, also called as Vampire Treatment

At Richmond Cosmetic Clinic we offer Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment. This treatment is a revolutionary non-surgical procedure that allows rejuvenation of the skin, using the patient’s own blood, with long lasting effect. As the clients own blood is used, it is commonly referred to as the “Vampire Facelift’’ when injected into the face.

How does Platelet Rich Plasma (Vampire) treatment work?

Our blood is known to have regenerative properties, hence has been used as a treatment for anti-ageing. It has an ability to rejuvenate skin, tendons, and bones. When injected into the face, neck, hands and other parts of the body it makes skin firm and youthful. This procedure is relatively inexpensive but very effective in most of the clients.

Blood contains plasma and various cells i.e., erythrocytes, lymphocytes, platelets etc. Platelets are important components of our blood and are responsible for clotting. Due to the clotting properties they prevent/stop bleeding. The clotting property of the platelets is due to the ability of these cells to adhere to each other. When blood clots, tissues around it retract. During PRP injections, the injections cause injury (due to needling) and this triggers a similar initial reaction, and the high concentration of platelets in PRP significantly augment the contraction effect in the tissues.   When PRP is injected into skin, the platelets form a bioactive platform of fibrin clot. This allows the release of numerous growth factors that leads to new blood vessel formation, collagen synthesis and promotes tissue repair.

Advantages of Platelet Rich Plasma (Vampire) treatment

  • Relatively cost effective
  • Effects relatively long lasting
  • Since clients own blood is used so it is relatively safe
  • No disease transmission
  • Non toxic
  • No rejection
  • Promotes local tissue growth and repair
  • Possibly can even be performed during pregnancy
  • Convenience – PRP prepared at doctor’s office

How is the procedure performed?

At Richmond Cosmetic Clinic you will have a consultation with our doctor to assess your suitability for the procedure. If you are deemed suitable, the area to be treated (e.g., face, eye lids, neck, hands etc ) is cleaned and topical anaesthetic cream applied for approximately half an hour to reduce the discomfort during the procedure.

The doctor will then draw 10 ml of your blood under sterile conditions into a special tube and process it in a machine called as centrifuge and harvest Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP). Finally multiple injections of PRP will be performed in the area being treated. It takes less than 5 minutes to do the injections.

Are there any side effects?

As the patient’s own blood is used, there are minimal side effects. Slight swelling and bruising may occur and can last for a few days.

Can this treatment be combined with other treatments?

The ‘Vampire treatment’ can be safely combined with other treatments such as dermal fillers, dermal roller, sculptra, and laser treatments.

 Post-treatment instructions

The injected area should be kept clean for 24hrs to prevent infections. If there is any concern the clinic should be contacted.
