Obagi Blue Peel

The Obagi Blue Peel is an advanced aesthetic procedure that significantly improves the appearance and health of your skin. The Obagi Blue Peel is a chemical peel that works by removing superficial layers of the skin that are aged/damaged. New, healthy cells replace old skin cells, resulting in a rejuvenated and younger looking complexion. This improves the quality and firmness of the skin.

At Richmond Cosmetic Clinic, Obagi Blue Peel is performed by an aesthetic doctor who has undergone specialised training and has more than 11 years of experience in the application of this Obagi product.  The Obagi Blue Peel uses Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA) as the active ingredient mixed with the patented Blue Base from Obagi. The Obagi Blue Peel is applied based on the level of damage and the desired level of improvement. More than one session may be required for optimum results. 

Indications of Obagi Blue Peel

•    Acne related pigmentation and scarring
•    Pigmentation and scarring from other causes.
•    Sun damaged skin
•    Fine lines on the skin
•    To improve large pores and skin tone, texture and laxity

Contra-indications to Obagi Blue Peel 

•    Active acne
•    Very sensitive skin
•    Very oily skin prone to pigmentation
•    Active viral infections (Herpes Simplex)

Procedure: 

Prior to the procedure

You will have a consultation with our doctor to assess the suitability for this chemical peel.  If deemed suitable, you will be started on Obagi Nu-Derm System for 6 weeks to 3 months depending on the colour of the skin. This will prepare your skin for the Obagi Blue peel and optimise the results. 

During the procedure

Our doctor will apply the Obagi Blue peel in multiple layers until the end point is achieved, this depends on what we are treating. Obagi blue peel can be applied on   the face, neck, chest, hands, arms and legs. Peel procedure takes about 30 minutes. A mild burning sensation will occur that generally lasts only a few minutes. Then you may experience a bluish tint to your skin that usually washes off in 12 to 24 hours. 

Recovery and Possible Risks

Following the procedure, light swelling is common. Within two to three days, the skin will begin to peel and the peeling continues for 5 to 7 days followed by a healing phase. We advise our clients to take one week off work following Obagi Blue Peel. 

Once your skin has completely recovered, you will notice a visible improvement in your skin  complexion. Your skin's appearance should continue to improve for the next four to six weeks, becoming firmer, clearer, smoother, healthier and more youthful looking.

Maximum results can be accessed at the end of 6 months. Repeat procedure may be necessary depending on the degree of improvement required and the patient’s expectation.

Limitations of Obagi Blue Peel

• Cannot treat excessive skin laxity (requires non-surgical or surgical facelift)
• Cannot treat lines: Dynamic wrinkles will need Botox and static lines will need Botox, dermal fillers or both. 
• Mild to moderate improvement only for severely sun damaged skin. For further improvement procedures such as skin resurfacing lasers, hydrating dermal fillers and Platelet Rich Plasma should be considered.
