Turkey neck is a term used to refer to the appearance of sagging skin on the neck resembling the wattle of a turkey.
Platysmal bands are two strips of muscles that start at the base of your neck and run up the front left and right sides of your neck, all the way up to the jaw. As we age these bands of muscle begin to weaken and combined with our skin losing elasticity this results in the skin on the neck beginning to sag. Significant weight loss can also cause this particular cosmetic concern.
Botox® injected into the platysmal bands and the lower jaw (Nefertiti Neck Lift) as well as the muscles that pull the corners of the mouth downwards can be an effective means of reducing the appearance of ‘turkey neck’. This enables the lifting muscles to work unopposed, creating the appearance of a firmer jaw and a smoother neck. Besides Botox® other treatments available include; laser skin tightening, thread lift, platelet rich plasma and Profhilo injections.
The procedure is performed by Dr Baba, a highly trained and experienced aesthetic doctor who is also a senior trainer for this procedure at London Aesthetic Academy (www.londonaestheticacademy.co.uk).
