Nasolabial folds are the lines that appear between the nose and the corner of the mouth. Typically, these lines become more pronounced as we age.
Nasolabial folds develop as a result of age related changes in the face. These include loss of facial fat (responsible for facial volume), bone changes as well as reduced skin elasticity due to the depletion of collagen. Besides the aging process nasolabial folds can occur due to excessive sun exposure, smoking and weight loss.
Nasolabial folds can appear at any age depending on individual variables such as facial anatomy and lifestyle factors. However, as we age the nasolabial folds typically become more pronounced.
Nasolabial folds can be treated non-surgically through the injection of dermal filler. By replacing lost volume with such products clients can expect a reduction in the appearance of nasolabial folds.
