Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment to rejuvenate the skin. It can significantly improve the appearance of wrinkles, stretch marks, cellulite and depressed scars (including acne scars on any part of the body.
A device with fine needles creates tiny punctures in the top layer of the skin, which triggers the body to create new collagen and elastin. Results can include improved skin texture and firmness, as well as a reduction in scars, pore size, and stretch marks.
The tiny pinpricks made during microneedling triggers a healing reaction which involves the stimulation of elastin and collagen production- two vital proteins which maintain the elasticity and structure of the skin. The result of this process is an improvement in the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, scars and pores. Microneedling also enables skincare products, such as potent serums, to penetrate and absorb into the deeper layers of skin to deliver more effective results.
At Richmond Cosmetic Clinic we perform microneedling using two types of microneedling devises, Derma Roller and Dermapen:
For both Dermal roller and Dermal Stamp/ Pen repeat treatments may be required to produce optimal results.
It is normal to experience some mild discomfort during this procedure. However, a topical local anaesthetic applied 45 minutes before treatment helps minimise this.
The treated area looks mildly sunburnt for a few days. Other possible side effects include bruising and swelling.
Microneedling is not suitable in the following situations:
It is normal for clients to experience some redness for up to a couple days post treatment as a result of skin stimulation, but it quickly subsides as the healing begins and the results of the treatment become evident. Clients can return to normal activity the same day. Regular use of SPF50 is strongly advised.
The procedure is performed by Dr Baba, a highly trained and experienced aesthetic doctor who is also a senior trainer for this procedure at London Aesthetic Academy (www.londonaestheticacademy.co.uk)
