Trapezius Botox® is a minimally invasive procedure that involves injecting Botulinum toxin A (Botox®) into the trapezius muscle to help with tension headaches (part treatment), as well as cervical dystonia (neck muscle spasms). Trap Tox also known as Trap Botox® or Barbie Botox® is a name given to an aesthetic procedure that help with the appearance of upper body by slimming the shoulders and elongating the neck which is particularly desirable in females with over developed shoulders and shortened neck - giving more masculine appearance.
The main reason patients opt for trapezius Botox® is to help with the neck and shoulder pain as Botox® relaxes the trapezius muscle which leads to relieving tension in the muscles and hence less shoulder pain and neck stiffness.
The cosmetic benefit of the Barbie Botox® treatment is, a gentler transition from neck to shoulder giving the appearance of elongated swan neck which is desirable in females leading to increase confidence in wearing off shoulder tops, evening gowns, summer dresses etc.
This treatment is not recommended for anyone with a history of neuromuscular disorders due to the high risk of complications.
The short-term side effects are pain, bruising and discomfort at the injection site.
It should be noted that there is a potential risk of the two sides looking asymmetrical which will require more Botox® adding more to the cost of the treatment.
There is potential to lose muscle mass and strength due to the inactivity of the muscle.
There is also a risk of weakness of the muscle making it difficult to work the muscle in the future.
There are other risks that needs to be discussed with Dr Baba during your consultation to help you make an informed decision.
Noticeable improvement can take 2-4 weeks. Maintenance sessions are recommended to sustain the results. It is to be noted the results are individual and may last up to 4 months dependent on many factors.
The process begins with a thorough consultation with Dr Baba covering the treatment, potential complications, side effects etc. After your consultation (please note we don’t offer consultation and treatment on same day), on the day of your treatment Botox® is injected into the trapezius muscle at different points to gently relax the muscle activity. The whole procedure is minimally uncomfortable and generally well tolerated.
